What is unlose.it and how does it work?
unlose.it is an asset protection service that helps your lost items find you. It’s a simple concept: when you lose an item, the unlose.it label tells the world there is a reward for its return. You don't need to squeeze your name, address and phone number into a tiny space; your identity remains anonymous using our unique .it# on the label. And if you move, your address can be quickly updated online. When someone finds your item and searches for it on our website, you’ll be notified immediately and we’ll even give you the IP address and geographical location of the computer where the search takes place..
Why is unlose.it better than simply writing my name on my valuables?
unlose.it allows you to offer a reward for your valuables and removes the risks of having your personal contact information marked on your items. Our website allows you to quickly change the contact information for any or all of your valuables… for instance, if you move or sell an item to someone else. (yes, your unlose.it registration is fully transferable!)
What kind of stuff can I register with unlose.it?
You can register almost anything with unlose.it! The most common items are keys, iPods, mp3 players, laptop computers, PDAs, cell phones, digital cameras and bicycles. But really, if you can put a label or tag on it, you can register it with unlose.it... and you can even register items that are already missing if you have the serial number
Someone gave me an unlose.it label/tag... now what?
1. create your free account using your email addy
2. add your item(s) and choose a service level
3. activate your label/tag by assigning the .it# to your item
4. if you ever lose your item, we'll help you unlose.it
I lost something that was registered with unlose.it… so now what?
If you already registered that item with unlose.it, you don’t really have to do anything. Our website allows you to offer a reward for the item as well as update your contact information (or remain anonymous.)
I lost something that was not registered with unlose.it… so now what?
Shame on you if you hadn’t yet registered the item with unlose.it! OK, we’re just kidding. Luckily it’s not too late; the person that finds your item may visit our website to check if the item is registered. So go track down the serial number, register it with unlose.it and voila – anyone who finds your item can get it back to you through our website.
I ordered a label/tag and it just arrived... now what?
You need to activate the label, so login to your account and assign the .it# to your item. And remember to clean the surface of your item before applying the unlose.it label.
How much does the unlose.it lost & found service cost?
lifetime lost & found is $4.95 per item
lifetime lost & found + recovery is $9.95 per item
(yeah, those are one-time fees!)
How much does iGuard cost?
iGuard 1 year license is $9.95 per device
iGuard 3 year license is $19.95 per device
(PLUS every iGuard license includes an unlose.it label and lifetime lost & found service)
Someone stole my iPod; can your iGuard software find it for me?
Sorry, iGuard must already be installed on your iPod for it to be tracked. Instead, you should register your stolen iPod for our lifetime lost & found service (so the police or suspicious buyers can trace the serial # back to you.) And if you get a new MP3 player, remember to protect it with iGuard right away!
Is iGuard compatible with Mac OS?
Sorry, not yet... but we're working on it.
How much cash reward should I offer?
We will answer this question with our own question: how much would it cost to replace your item? Offering a reward equal to 50% of your replacement cost seems reasonable to us.
Do I pay for the cash reward now?
No, any reward that is offered is paid when your item is found and returned to you.
Do you keep a percentage of the cash reward?
No, your entire reward is paid directly to the person who returns your item.
I found something that is registered with unlose.it… so now what?
Kudos to you for making the effort to get the item back to its rightful owner. You can contact the owner via our website or directly, if they chose to display contact information in the search results.
Does unlose.it deter thieves?
We’re not 100% sure (we're not thieves) but we think our stickers help prevent theft. The police tell us that our labels help reduce opportunistic theft, make it more difficult to sell stolen goods and help the authorities identify owners of recovered items.
